Q: How will I be graded in this class?
A: 100% assignments, best-9-out-of-10. 3 extension days. No exam. The rest of this post specifies details.
There will be 10 submitted assignments throughout the semester – roughly one assignment per week that consist of a handful of questions. Each assignment is worth 11 points. Lab1 and lab2 count as one assignment due on Monday of week 3 (see submission).
Your final grade (out of 100) is the total from the best 9 out of these 10, plus one point (for free!). In other words, the worst assignment doesn’t count, or you can miss one assignment without panelty.
Late assignments will not be accepted. However, each student will have a total extension budget of 3 days for the whole assignment series. This budget can be spent without justification nor prior request. It will be up to each student to spend this budget wisely over the duration of the course. Once the budget is exhausted, 100% penalty will apply.
There is a hard cut-off of two days (i.e. 48 hours) for each assignment, after which the solution will be discussed with the class, and late submission recieves no grade. In other words, you cannot use more than 2 late days per assignment, beyond that solutions will be discussed on course forum and submissions don’t count.
Part of a day counts as one day for each assignment. For example, if you submitted 1 hour late for assignment 1 (1 late day), and 26 hours late for assignment 2 (2 late days), you’ve used up three late days.
Your 9 best assignments are considered graded, and the 10-th is considered ungraded. Hence the late day budget doesn’t apply to the 11th assignemnt.
Once the extension-day budget is used up, assignments that are submitted late recieves no credit.
You are encouraged to discuss the assignments in the labs and lectures, as well as with your peers. But we expect you to write the submitted programs and written assignment independently.
Students are expected to uphold ANU Code of Practice for Student Academic Integrity.
